D1 – Evaluate interpersonal and written communication techniques. Introduction The most important thing when presenting is your interpersonal skills. Throughout this project I believe my interpersonal skills were good but there were plenty of improvements I could have made, I have been really successful in developing my interpersonal skills, I believe that it should be important that every student has the opportunity to improve their presentational skills or communication skills because at some point they will need it.

Unit 1 had tested my confidences and had me use a variety of interpersonal skills such as eye contact, movement, body language and my written techniques was also put to use and assessed in this unit. Evaluating my interpersonal skills my interpersonal skills are pretty good when it comes to one on one conversation, I believe that I am very confident and that I have nothing to hide which gives me an advantage when speaking to others.

Recently I have been assessed on my one to one communication and really there aren’t many improvements I can make apart from pre-preparing before the conversation, but apart from that my one to one communication is on point. On another occasion I was assessed on how well I worked in a group, I was put into a group and was instructed to produce a presentation on interpersonal skills. At the end of the presentation, other students who watched the presentation had to point out all the bad interpersonal skills and then discuss on ways to improve them. And finally, I was assessed on how well I displayed myself in front of a live audience (i. e. lassmates), I was expected to create a slide related to I. T then present that slide using all the improvements I picked up from the previous task. During the presentation, I made sure that there was solid message going across to the audience and I kept engaging the audience, by asking questions and allowing the audience to ask questions if they are unsure about a certain detail related to my presentation which was about computer components. To be assured that they were taking the knowledge in. I made sure that I kept eye contact with the audience and that I didn’t overuse the space by turning towards the board and speaking with my back acing the audience, However I believe that my presentation ran smoothly and that it was really easy to understand, the use of interpersonal skills was at an exceptional standard. There were some negative points that I came across while presenting, for example, I did at some point stutter because of the lack of preparation, I also did have to improvise while standing in front of the live audience, again due to the lack of preparation, by lack of preparation I mean reading the presentation multiple times and rehearsing before the official presentation.

Written communication An important lesson I picked up from doing this task would be ways I can improve my written communication, during the first task of this course we had to explain the personal attributes valued by employees, we’re being assessed on our

written communication. I didn’t pass the task the first time around, not because of grammar or punctuation but because I didn’t put enough detail in to complete the task, I took the task back in and improved it by adding a little more information.

Another similar issue occurred with my third task (P3), again in that task I didn’t have enough information to complete the task, I did re-do the task and detailed it which resulted in me passing the task. The real issue here is with the quantity I produce, and no the quality! I put a lot of effort in keeping my work structured and grammatically correct that I sometimes forget to put enough detail in the work.

If I work on the amount of detail I put into a paragraph, I will pass tasks first time around with no doubt. Group Activities (presentation) Another thing we were assessed on was our ability to work in a team, if we got the work done? If we communicated properly? The ability to work confidently in a team is highly valued by employers everywhere; this is the skill that lands you the job. Team work is the most respected attribute in an employee as I mentioned earlier in the evaluation, e were assessed on our team work. I worked with a classmate when creating the presentation. I created the slides while he did research on the topic and as our presentation was about computer components, my group member suggested that we borrow a motherboard from I. T support to support our presentation. All in all we managed to finish the presentation in less than a week, and we passed first time around, we were the first group to present in our class and I and my team member think we did pretty well.

I chose to work with one person for our presentation because then it’s easier to communicate with one person and we could split the responsibility so it was easier to manage. What I have learnt from watching others present having watched my peers/classmates presentations I have basically picked up a few do’s and don’ts while presenting. Some groups made obvious mistakes and they had to re-do the presentation, at the end of the presentation we had to assess the group which presented and then point out places for improvement.

For example a few groups kept making the same mistake by facing the board and just reading of the board while others just stood there not participating hiding while other members of their group presented, there was this one incident where one group copied and pasted a text which they were unable to interpret so they ended up failing. From my presentation which I have presented and the presentations I have sat through and assessed, I believe that to have a successful presentation you will need to engage the audience and use all the interpersonal skills.

From creating presentations and leaflets, I know understand what employers are looking for in an employee. Conclusion In conclusion, I believe I have benefited a

lot from completing these tasks because I have learnt more about different communication techniques and interpersonal skills for example, watching others present and then criticizing them for them to improve. I feel as if the tasks I completed have had a positive effect on me and greatly improved my interpersonal skills.
