Community colleges represent one of the types of postsecondary education in the United States. They are also called junior colleges, city colleges, two-year colleges, or technical colleges. These are two-year academic institutions that may grant certificates, diplomas and associate’s degrees, many of them can also provide adult and continuing education.
Upon completion of studies in a community college, some students may transfer to a university or four-year liberal arts college to pursue a bachelor’s degree for two or three years or start their career.
